What is a scroll speed test?

A scroll speed test measures how many pixels you can scroll in a fixed time. Here that's five seconds. It's a fun way to benchmark your mouse wheel, trackpad, or thumb, and to see how your hardware compares. Spin the wheel inside the box and the running total climbs; the clock starts on your very first scroll.

How this test works

Hover over the striped box and scroll with your mouse wheel. Every pixel of movement, up or down, adds to your distance. On a phone or trackpad, drag inside the box instead. After five seconds the test locks in your total. Reaching 25,000 px puts you in the ⚡ Lightning tier.

How to scroll faster

A mouse with a free-spinning (clutch) wheel is a huge advantage. One flick keeps spinning on its own. Otherwise, use quick repeated flicks rather than slow turns, and alternate directions so you never run out of runway. Trackpad users get the best results with fast two-finger swipes. Your best distance is saved on your device, so keep flicking and beat it.

Frequently asked questions

How is scroll speed measured?
The test adds up the total distance you scroll, in pixels, during a 5-second window. Both mouse-wheel and touch dragging count.
What is a good scroll speed?
It depends heavily on your mouse and settings, but rolling past 15,000 pixels in 5 seconds is fast and 25,000+ is Lightning tier.
Does a free-spinning scroll wheel help?
Yes. A mouse with a free-spin or high-resolution scroll wheel can rack up far more distance than a standard notched wheel, so hardware makes a real difference here.
Can I use a trackpad?
You can, and two-finger swipes count, but a mouse wheel is usually faster for racking up distance in a short window.
