What is the spacebar test?

The spacebar test counts how many times you can press the spacebar in a fixed window. It's the same engine as our CPS test, but for your keyboard. Great for gamers who mash space to jump, sprint, or skip. On a phone you can tap the arena instead; the count works the same way.

How is it measured?

We listen for each spacebar press and ignore held-key auto-repeat, so only real, separate presses count. That means you can't cheat by holding the key down. Every tap has to be its own keystroke. The live counter shows your presses per second as you go.

Tips for a faster spacebar score

Use the side of your thumb and bounce off the key rather than pushing it down hard. Keep your wrist relaxed and steady. A tense hand tires fast and slows your rate. Mechanical keyboards with a short actuation distance register presses sooner, which helps on longer tests. Start with the 10-second mode to find your rhythm, then chase your personal best. It's stored on your device, so come back any time and try to beat it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the spacebar test?
It counts how many times you can press the spacebar in a set time window, the keyboard equivalent of a CPS test. Your first press starts the timer and the live counter tracks your rate.
What is a good spacebar speed?
Around 6 to 8 presses per second is solid for most people. Past 9 you are in the fast range, and sustained double-digit rates are excellent.
Does key-repeat count against me?
No. The test ignores the operating system's auto-repeat, so only real, separate key presses are counted.
Can I take the test on mobile?
Yes. On a touch screen, tapping the arena counts the same as a spacebar press, so you can play without a keyboard.
